Sudbury Reservoir Mid-Day Meander
Have to say after four previous trips here (two off the Rte 85 causeway) where I only caught one fish in total I was beginning to doubt this reservoir's reputation as a bass hot spot. But then again this is my first season after not having fished much since I was a teenager so I've clearly got a lot to learn.
But with a week of vacation I had plenty of time so I spent the entire afternoon working the shoreline from near the Parmenter Street parking area.
First fish came within the first 15 minutes, a nice 14 inch largemouth that took a green Zoom lizard.
Second one was a 12 inch largemouth taken on a Senko watermelon worm about a quarter mile down lake on a rocky point.
Third fish was another 12 inch largemouth, taken on the same Senko bait, from the same spot the first one was caught, on the final cast of the day. When the hell does that happen? ;-)
All in all a nice afternoon, sunny, in the 70s, not when I usually fish - I tend to go late afternoon/evening - but fairly productive.
My biggest beef with this place are the slobs who leave so much trash along the shoreline - the worst I've seen at any of the local fishing spots, probably due to the isolation of it. I ran into a guy at the parking lot, a Boy Scout troop leader, hiker, and fisherman, who was heading out to do a trash pickup of stuff he had cached in the woods previously. He told me he's led cleanups where they filled numerous large garbage bags in the past. Good for him!
That said, I'm looking forward to coming back to Sudbury rez when the fall cools things down and hopefully the bass are even more active.
Nice job! And yah plenty of bucketeers are ruining the sud. Still my favorite place to fish so just try other spots. Sooner or later you will find big fish. Also reward u with the occasional smallie. Let me know if you want company sometime. I will take you to some spots I like. Pm me. Even though I just bought a kayak I still catch my best bass at the sud.
